The only thing they could do better… I called on a Saturday and the call centre person who answered said they do work on Saturdays and someone would call me that day. I got a call on Monday morning. They are the company of choice to handle all of your plumbing concerns including drain cleaning service, water heater installation, plumbing repair, and more. Perfection Plumbing is a Trusted Saskatoon Plumbers on the Saskatoon Directory. In their latest tip, they explain how to flush your water heater.
To flush your water heater, you will need to follow these steps:
- Turn off the power to the water heater. If your water heater is electric, you will need to switch off the circuit breaker or unplug it. If it is gas-powered, you will need to turn off the gas supply at the gas valve.
- Attach a hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the water heater. This valve is typically located on the side of the tank, and it is used for draining and flushing the tank.
- Place the other end of the hose in a floor drain or outside where the water can drain safely.
- Open the drain valve by turning the handle counterclockwise. Water and sediment will begin to flow out of the tank and through the hose.
- Allow the water to flow until it runs clear. This may take a few minutes or longer, depending on the amount of sediment in the tank.
- Close the drain valve by turning the handle clockwise.
- Turn the power back on to the water heater and refill the tank by opening the cold-water supply valve.
- Once the tank is full, turn on the hot water faucet nearest to the water heater to allow air to escape from the tank.
- Check for any leaks and make sure the drain valve is tightened securely.
It is recommended to flush your water heater at least once a year to remove sediment and improve the efficiency of the appliance. It is also recommended to have it serviced to maintain the warranty based on the manufacturer’s request. If you decide you would like professional help, you can

Perfection Plumbing's Experts Explain How To Unclog Your Toilet
It’s one of the worst feelings in the world after you flush the toilet, the water doesn’t go down, but it actually starts coming back up and now you need to deal with how to unplug your toilet. Congratulations, you have clogged the toilet and your reward is going to be the awkward struggle of figuring out how to make things work again as quickly as possible.
So let us tell you how to do it with no fuss, no muss, and no plunger.
You’re going to need three things for this job:
1. Hot water
2. Dish soap/liquid
3. A little bit of time.
You also may want some towels to put around the base of the toilet before attempting this job, or maybe just at least have some towels ready.
The first step is to squeeze about a cup of dish liquid directly into the bowl. You’ll see it’ll eventually sink to the bottom of the bowl, where it’ll start to lubricate, whatever is causing the clog and the pipes around the clog.
Next, add in as much hot water as you can, without overfilling the toilet, and allow that to help the dish liquid to do its job even better. Remember good things come to those who wait so we’re going to spend the next 15 to 20 minutes doing something else. While this magic potion does its thing (it’s been about 20 minutes), you’ll notice the water level has probably sunk quite a bit, this is a good thing, but resist the urge to flush.
Fill your bucket up with hot water and dump it down the toilet again. The reason you want to do this is to help restart that water cycle and to further push that clog right down the pipe. Then you can flush and then you can move on with your day.
~Perfection Plumbing & Drain Cleaning Ltd. disclaimer: Clogs can be serious business if they are bad enough or deep enough into the system. You might need a plunger or a specialty drain product or even a professional plumber, to help you unplug your toilet. But hopefully, it won’t come to that.

Is Replacing A Furnace Difficult?
I get this question quite often and the answer is no not for industry professionals like J.O.B Heating and Air Conditioning. We specialize in replacing furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters. In fact, many times we replace the furnace, air conditioner and water heater all in the same day. Our process is simple, you ask us to come in and offer you a quote for replacement. I will come over to your home at no charge (within a 30KM radius of Saskatoon), I will view your old furnace and equipment. Look over the venting options and make sure that there are no unforeseen hiccups. Sometimes these hiccups do happen but when we see them ahead of the install date and plan for them then it becomes a seamless replacement.
You want to be wary of the company that will offer you an estimate over the phone or the contractors that don't spend any time looking at your equipment or the install. They will say that they are "bonded" and you have nothing to fear. This may not always be the case. To be bonded simply means that in order to get as gas licence we need to put up a $5000 bond. Yes, that’s all that's required $5000. This is why it is important to choose a contractor that would not only be licensed and bonded but would be part of professional groups such as the Sask Energy Network or Trusted Saskatoon.com. J.O.B Heating and Air Conditioning is very proud to be a part of both of these professional organizations.
Being part of Trusted Saskatoon.com means that Trusted has looked behind the curtain and found that we are a company with high moral values. We also agree to uphold the 5 Trusted guarantees. Being a Sask Energy Network member also requires a high level of professionalism and Trust. The Plumbing Experts at Perfection Plumbing Describe Which Plumbing Rumours Are to Be Believed!
Not all rumours and myths contain a fragment of truth. Sadly, a lot of people put too much faith in hearsay, even though much of it is unsubstantiated. As a result, homeowners everywhere have come to fear events that won’t even materialize. Luckily, you can find out which myths contain some truth and which one’s lack factual basis.
#1: A Plunger is the Answer to ALL Clogged Plumbing
All earnest homeowners keep a plunger at home. These are fine to deal with minor blockage in drains and pipes. However, using a plunger is a skill that you need to learn. Too often, people inadvertently complicate the clog because they don’t properly apply the plunger, which creates an overflow. Therefore, it’s wiser to call a trusted Trusted Saskatoon plumber to deal with this issue.
#2: It's OK to Flush Anything Down the Toilet
Your toilet is not a garbage disposal. Irregularly shaped objects from the trash can get caught and cause a major blockage in the plumbing system. Similarly, the rumour that insists it’s perfectly okay to flush cat litter down the toilet is simply bilge. Animal feces may contain bacteria and parasites proving harmful to humans and the marine life via the sewage system.
#3: Clean the Bowl with Bleach Tablets
There is some truth to this myth. Putting bleach tablets in the toilet bowl does cleanse and add sparkle to your toilet. However, do not let the tablet linger in the bowl for more than 10 minutes. Prolonged exposure to bleach can destroy the plumbing system of a toilet within six months. Flush the tablet promptly and thoroughly, and remember to use only those tablets specifically designed for toilets.
#4: A Little Drip is of No Concern
According to a recent analysis performed by the Saskatchewan Watershed Authorities, Canadian households lose 1,200 litres of water every year due to a leaky faucet. That amount of water can fill as much as seven bathtubs. Aside from their drain on water supplies and the ecosystem, leaky faucets also affect your water bill. Don’t hesitate to call a trusted plumber to fix this problem right away.
Many other myths flourish undisputed, such as freshening the toilet bowl with lemon peels. Can it work? Yes, your bathroom will smell lovely. Soon after, however, you will likely be dealing with a clogged toilet. Before doing anything, rash based on myths, it’s wise to ask a plumbing service for a genuine and verifiable answer.
